Welcome To The Association
In each SRO or hotel within our association, a council structure is established to ensure comprehensive representation and governance. This structure includes essential roles such as one President (also known as Caption), who also serves on the Association's board, one Vice President, a Secretary, a Treasurer, one Union Steward, and between one to six Floor Leaders. Each floor within the establishment appoints its own Floor Leader, collectively forming the council responsible for overseeing affairs within their respective hotel or SRO. This organized approach facilitates effective leadership and management across all properties affiliated with our association.

As an association, we are committed to supporting our council members in several ways:
-
Advocacy and Representation: We engage in advocacy on behalf of our council members at local government meetings, community forums, and with various stakeholders, including AHF Foundation and Health Housing Foundation Tenants. We aim to ensure that the voices of Skid Row and health housing tenants are effectively heard and respected in decisions impacting their living conditions.
-
Legal Support and Resources: We provide council members with access to legal resources and support to navigate challenges such as eviction threats, landlord disputes, and living conditions issues. This includes facilitating connections with pro bono legal services as necessary.
-
Community Building: We foster a strong sense of community among council members and their neighbors through regular meetings, events, and workshops. These initiatives promote networking, mutual support, and solidarity among tenants in Skid Row.
-
Education and Empowerment: We educate council members about their tenant rights and empower them with knowledge about housing laws, tenant protections, and available resources. This empowerment enables informed decision-making and proactive steps toward improving their living conditions.
-
Collaboration and Outreach: We collaborate closely with community organizations, service providers, and advocacy groups to strengthen collective efforts aimed at enhancing housing conditions and addressing homelessness in Skid Row. Our outreach initiatives aim to expand our influence and impact within the community.
-
As the AHF Skid Row Tenants Association, we are committed to cultivating a supportive environment where council members can effectively represent their communities and contribute to positive changes in housing policies and conditions.
